In her article, Meanie focuses on the similarities between African artworks and the structures and systems of Bauhaus design, which has become the foundation of many design principles. Bauhaus design is almost certain to be covered in foundational design courses at the university level, while African arts are only briefly mentioned, if at all.
Through the visual design, I emphasized the visual and structural aspects of African design that have been taken and used in Bauhaus design without credit. Grid structures, repeated lines, and geometric shapes are all clearly seen in African artworks, and also in Bauhaus works. By placing African and Bauhaus works side by side throughout the spreads, these visual similarities are made clear, supporting the arguments Meanie is making throughout her writing.
