Historically the process was used to make maps before transitioning to graphic works such as posters. As the process has been replaced by more efficient methods, lithography stones were given to universities for their printmaking programs for student use.

Concepts of Self, 11″ x 14″ 2025, stone lithograph

In order to reuse the stones for other pieces, once the finished edition is printed, the stone is grained to re-smooth the surface. I chose to base my work around the social norm of not discussing salary at the dinner table and the growing divide between the upper and middle classes, leaving an empty seat at the table.

Worth of a Woman, 13″ x 18″ 2025, ball grain plate and photo-plate lithograph

For this project, we chose another lithographer to study and mimic in both style and content. I studied Jonas Wood, who primarily is a painter, but also works with various printmaking mediums as well.
