Reliefs
The relief process utilizes the removal of material from the substrate, often linoleum or MDF board. What is taken away does not catch the ink rolled over the surface and therefore does not print. Areas of “gray” are made by using texture techniques such as hatching or stippling to create areas of optical mixing as what is printed is either inked or not, black or white.
